Who We Are
Enhancing Fieldwork Learning is a long-running initiative focused on using affordable, widely available technologies to support better fieldwork teaching and learning.
The project focuses on using affordable, ubiquitous technologies such as iPads, digital cameras, social networks, and apps to enhance learning and engagement in the field, to ensure that students are well prepared for the field, and to make full use of the experience in the post-field phase.
The project links pedagogy with recent technological advances and places strong emphasis on engagement, dissemination, and sharing effective practice across disciplines.
What We Do

We share case studies
We collect and share examples of technology-enhanced fieldwork practice from across disciplines, helping educators learn from real teaching experiences.

We review tools
We curate practical tools for fieldwork, including apps for data storage, measurement, maps, data presentation, and first aid

We support reflective practice
The Fieldwork Audit tool helps teaching teams examine current practice, identify strengths and weaknesses, and reflect on where change may be

We connect educators
The annual EFL Showcase and wider network bring together staff from different disciplines to share ideas, resources, and approaches to field

We stengthen preparation and reflection
EFL resources focus on learning before, during, and after fieldwork, so students are better prepared and make fuller use of the field

We support pedogogic development
The project provides resources for staff interested in teaching innovation, inclusive practice, and pedagogic research in fieldwork.

Title: Bridging The Divide – Southampton, Septmeber 2026
The 16th annual Enhancing Fieldwork Learning Showcase will focus on the theme “Bridging the Divide”. The free event brings together fieldwork educators from a range of disciplines to share innovations in field teaching and learning.
